Issue

Creative agency requested design consulting and execution for a cutting-edge, social application to deliver a unique experience for participants and spectators in the New York City Marathon.

Insight

Original application design was not consistent with sponsor brand and lacked usability and functionality.

Implementation

Created more than thirty wireframes and finished comps within a short time frame. Designed the entire look and functionality of the application and the front-end user experience. Provided prescriptive guidance to the development firms that coded the application. Application allowed entrants to log in with Facebook, instantly invite friends, and allow them to share personalized text, video, or pictures delivered on large screens throughout the race, utilizing geo-location and bib number. Application was highly scalable and hosted on Heroku.

Participants could run like the wind, bring their family along on their adventure, and share their achievements during the NYC marathon.

On race day, 47,000 entrants and 2 million spectators had access to this application that enhanced the personal experience for runners.
